12-2-08: It's All About Service
First semester has been a very busy time for the Reed-Custer chapter of the National Honor Society. Students began their service to the school before the school year started by giving school tours to incoming freshman and new students. New faculty were also welcomed to Reed Custer High School with a small gift from the NHS. Their service also extends out into the community. National Honor Society members helped children at the Lions Halloween in the Park, served tea at the Family Care Tea, helped veterans at the Fossil Ridge Library’s veteran’s dinner and took pictures of children with Santa at the community tree lighting ceremony. Recently members enjoyed shopping for Christmas gifts they donated to families as a part of the Holiday Care Program. Currently the NHS members are collecting coats for the community and planning the candle lighting induction ceremony where 14 new members will be initiated into the Reed Custer chapter of the National Honor Society.
11-26-08: 2008-2009 Induction Ceremony
The National Honor Society is a service organization made up of high school students who have achieved academic excellence and possess qualities of outstanding character, leadership and service above and beyond what their peers traditionally display. In order to be considered for acceptance to the National Honor Society, candidates must have a grade point average of at least 3.25 and complete a Student Information Packet. They then must go through an interview process where each candidate interviews with a selection board comprised of Reed Custer High School faculty.
The RCHS students selected to be the newest members of the National Honor Society will be honored at an induction ceremony on Wednesday, December 3, at 6:00 pm at RCHS. Following the candle lighting ceremony, refreshments will be served in honor of the new members.
Family, friends and the community can be proud of these young people who choose to make a difference by taking action or giving of themselves in an effort to improve their own lives and the lives of those around them.
