Principal's Message
July 2010
Welcome to the 2010-2011 school year at Reed-Custer High School. Last school year went by so fast and the summer is going even faster. We are looking forward to seeing the students back in the hallways of RCHS again soon.
Looking ahead, we will be implementing some new things for the upcoming school year. Returning will be our tutoring program during 5th period lunch time under a different name. The Homework Depot: “You can do it. We can help.” will be located right across from the cafeteria allowing students a place to make up work, take tests or quizzes and work with teacher facilitators/peer tutors. Again this year we will be offering Math and English Study Assist classes to help students in areas of need. New this year will be our (RtI) Response to Intervention plan at the high school with grade level RtI teams. This will include focus on behavioral, reading and math interventions. Lastly, we will continue working to improve our communication with parents through Power School, our RCHS web site and Teacher’s BLOGS.
With that in mind, we always look forward to the start of a new school year because it means a fresh start for not only our incoming freshman but for all students. It represents an opportunity for you to set new goals, plan for your future through academics and get involved in new extracurricular activities.
There are three new “R’s” that we will be emphasizing this school year to help make Reed-Custer High School a positive learning environment for all students. The first is teaching students Respect which includes self-respect and being respectful to others including peers and teachers. Second is Responsibility, which covers so many things such as: being on time, doing homework, studying and using school appropriate language. Lastly, is being a Role Model which means to lead by example and doing what’s right.
We will be having an all-school assembly at the start of the school year on September 1st at 1:00pm in the R-C Auditorium. The presentation is called "Rachel's Challenge" and is a powerful presentation about Rachel Scott, the first victim in the Columbine H.S. shootings. She touched the lives of thousands with her kindness & compassion. Inspired by her many journal writings, her message is being spread worldwide through powerful educational presentations. Parents are welcome to attend the assembly, that focuses on showing kindness and compassion for others. If you would like more information please visit my BLOG link on the left under my picture.
Enjoy the rest of your summer. We look forward to seeing you back at RCHS.
Sincerely,
Tim Ricketts
