Alexander Pope once said,“Act well your part; there all the honor lies.”  The truth of this statement is the center of the RCHS theatre program.  Students involved in the RCHS dramatic arts will find themselves acquiring theatrical, leadership, communication, and organizational skills that will serve them well for the rest of their lives if they are open to the magic of theatre and how it can change their hearts.

Why join theatre?  Because it makes lives better!

1.  Theatre does no harm.

2.  Theatre is an expression of a basic human need.

3.  Theatre brings people together.

4. Theatre helps build appreciation for democratic life, enhances argument discourse, and increases one's ability to empathize.

5. Theatre contributes to education and literacy.  It has been shown to sharpen attention, quicken mental shifts, and enhance language skills.

6.  Theatre rebuilds neighborhoods and contributes to industry.

7.  Theatre "influences the way we think and feel about our own lives and encourages us to take a hard look at ourselves, our values, and our behavior."

In order to be a Thespian, a student must accumulate a certain number of hours (to be determined by Thespian officers) of participation within the dramatic arts at RCHS and maintain a consistent role on/off stage. Potential Thespians must be students of good standing and display a team player mentality. To participate in the fall play or spring musical, students must audition. Audition information and material will be made available in room 105 at least 7 days prior to audition dates.

Audition dates are TBA--check school announcements for future details.

In addition to a Thespian Club which is active year round, the drama department produces two main stage shows: a fall play in early November and a spring musical in March.

The Thespian Club will meet before/after school as needed.  Rehearsals for the productions are held before school (6:30-7:30 am) and evenings (5:30-7:30 pm).

Listen closely to school announcements for audition and meeting information!  You can also speak with Mrs. Kanak (room 105) or Mr. Mangan (room 603) for more information.
