Reed-Custer High School WYSE Team Sponsors are:
Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering
This is an academic
challenge consisting of 3 events: regionals, sectionals and state. Students
take 2 tests in their choice of 7 subject areas. Top 2 Individuals will advance
in each subject area to sectionals. If they place in the top 2 at sectionals,
they go on to the state competition.
The subject areas that the students compete in are as
follows: Biology, Chemistry, Math, Physics, English, Computer science and
Engineering graphics.
The WYSE team is made up of high achieving academic
students that are invited to participate on the team based on GPA's and teacher
recommendations. The team is put together in January and given test questions
to help them prepare for the competitions. The regional event takes place at
Kankakee Community College in February. The sectionals take place in March at
North Central College in Wheaton. The academic challenges are sponsored by the Eastern Illinois Univerisity and the state competition is in April at the campus in
Urbana.

Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering (WYSE) is an International
program headquartered at the University of Illinois, offering the annual Academic Challenge
competition, a summer camps and other programs. The immediate goal is to attract
a greater number of talented and diverse students to careers in engineering and
the sciences.
